I have decided that if I am going to keep up this blog, I am going to have to post about books. I am also thinking of doing some revamping on the site. The homepage will have all the posts, but I am thinking of also inserting other tabs where things like the Daily Round-Up and Books can go. In the books section I will give recommendations of books I have been reading or have heard of and, if there is time, will try to offer book reviews. Once I have some time to look into that, I will be trying to implement that.
In the meantime, I want to share some recent books I have come across that you may be interested in reading yourself.
The first selection of books are various aids in helping Students learn how to get the most out of their education. This is something students constantly need, considering post-secondary education is becoming more about forming people into information machines rather than thoughtful thinkers and virtuous human beings.
The best book on the subject, though, that I have come across and remember devouring it the first time I read it is the following book by Fr. James Schall:
In my daily round-up, I mentioned a great article about education, authority, and hierarchy in society. You can find the link to that here.
It mentions a book I am eager to read about education and modernity:
Finally, there is a book I am reading at the moment for fun. It is a description of Aquinas’ concepts of emotion. It is good Thomism (there is bad Thomism out there, unfortunately).
